2. Smooth out the script before recording (the director's tip)
As a voice director, I see it happen daily: sentences that read perfectly fine on paper, but which a voice actor stumbles over. While text can be forgiving, vocal cords need oxygen and rhythm.
Always read your text aloud once before recording, at a relaxed pace. Where you have to gasp for breath, the sentence is too long. Where your tongue stumbles over words, the sentence flow is too clunky. By briefly refining your script beforehand and cutting superfluous adjectives, you give the voice actor the room to tell a natural and convincing story.
3. Pay attention to the origin and accent of the voice
A Flemish listener is acutely aware when a voice isn't from their own region. Although a Dutch voice like Bart (friendly, clear, and warm) works excellently for the Dutch market, a Belgian campaign requires an authentic local accent.
In our database of 94 professional voices, we always strictly ensure the correct regional match. An experienced voice like Veerle, with over 25 years of experience, knows precisely how to add the right Flemish nuance that builds trust with a local audience. If you want the message to truly resonate, choose a native speaker from the target region.
4. Understand the cost structure
When booking a voice, it's helpful to know how the costs are structured so you never face any surprises. There's a clear distinction between commercial and non-commercial work:
- Non-commercial projects (such as e-learning, internal company videos, or an audiobook): for these, we usually charge a per-word rate or a fixed project rate.
- Commercial projects (such as a radio or TV commercial): here, the fee consists of a fixed basic rate for the studio recording, combined with a buy-out for usage rights. This buy-out depends on the medium and the period during which the recording will be heard.
For exact pricing, we always provide a clear, tailor-made quote for your specific application.
5. Assess a voice for flexibility, not just its sound
A beautiful voice quality alone isn't enough. A professional voice actor can adjust their intonation based on the director's instructions. Voices like Christina's sound naturally warm and clear, but it's their craftsmanship that allows them to place exactly the right emphasis your story requires.
Clients appreciate that professionalism. For example, client Sasha gave us a maximum score of 5/5 and wrote: "Extremely satisfied with the quality and the very clear and professional voice of Johfrah! Highly recommended!"
