How a recording session works
Behind the glass wall, our voice director monitors every nuance. Our agency works with a selected pool of 94 professional voice actors. For each language, we work exclusively with native speakers. The recording of a Danish text follows a fixed, careful pattern:
- Pre-script check: we go through the text to see where spoken Danish deviates from the written source text.
- First test take recording: the focus here is on the natural flow of the sentences.
- Micro-level adjustments: fine-tuning pauses, the 'stød', and the energy at the end of each phrase.
- Audio clean-up: we remove breaths and unwanted mouth clicks without losing the human touch.
The director's tip from the loudspeaker
A common pitfall in Danish voice recordings is the tendency of speakers to strongly drop pitch and volume at the end of a sentence. In Denmark, this is very common in spoken language. However, for a Belgian listener or client, this can come across as if the voice actor loses interest halfway through the message.
My regular director's tip during the session: ask the Danish voice actor to hold the energy just a little more on the very last word. The pronunciation remains one hundred percent authentically Danish. But the message's impact is retained for the client's ear.
Clarity on rates and licences
Behind the scenes, we also make sure the business side stays clear. For commercial work, such as a radio ad or online advertisement, we work with a fixed basic rate for the studio recording. This is supplemented with a buy-out for the specific usage and duration.
Is it a non-commercial production, such as e-learning or a corporate film? Then we charge per word or per project. This way, you know exactly where you stand in advance. No surprises later.
