Consider a male voice in the following situations:
- Instruction videos and e-learning where the explanation needs to come across as clear, calm, and reliable.
- Documentaries or brand stories that require a human, narrative tone.
- Short video adverts where you want to establish a warm sense of trust within seconds.
How do you direct a voice actor during the recording?
As a voice director, I often see it happen in the studio: a speaker tries so hard to do well that they unconsciously slip into an overly formal 'presentation voice'. That quickly sounds distant.
Before the first take, ask the voice actor to record the text as if they are telling the story to one specific colleague by the coffee machine. This small thought experiment takes the pressure off. The intonation immediately changes from a speech to a real conversation, making the final result much more natural.
To avoid misunderstandings, we always clearly explain how our rates are structured. The price of a voice-over consists of two specific parts:
- The recording fee: the basic rate for the voice actor's time and effort in the studio.
- The buy-out: the fee for the usage rights of the recording. This depends on where the audio will be heard (such as TV, radio, or online) and for how long.
For non-commercial work, such as an internal corporate film or a training module, we do not use a buy-out. Instead, we use a per-word or per-project rate. This way, you know exactly what to expect upfront. On our platform, you will find 94 professionally selected voices in various languages, such as Dutch, French, German, and Spanish.
How do you make the best choice for the Belgian market?
The origin and nuance of the voice make a world of difference to how the listener feels. For example, a voice like Youri sounds fresh and professional for the Dutch market. However, a Belgian listener often connects more quickly with a familiar Flemish sound.
Are you specifically targeting an audience in Flanders? Then a Flemish voice-over works best to strike the right chord. Our voices speak their native language perfectly, which creates a natural connection with your target audience.
