A voice-over project follows four steps: choosing a voice, settling the agreements, recording, and delivering the audio in the format your editor needs.
Step one is choosing a voice, which you do by listening to demos in the same genre as your project. Step two involves the agreement: how much text, what tone, and where the recording can be used. This last point determines the price, so it must be agreed before the recording, not afterwards.
Before recording, a short preparation of your script is beneficial. Write out brand and people's names phonetically. Spell out numbers when their pronunciation isn't obvious, and indicate where the emphasis should be. Any ambiguity in the script will become a choice for the voice actor.
After recording, editing begins. This includes trimming silences, removing breaths, and levelling the audio. Post-recording corrections are normal. They are handled in a separate recording session, and the new fragment is then seamlessly inserted into the existing recording.
